Farm Bureau supports Rudyard Agriculture Program with a large donation
Rudyard Area Schools has been awarded a large grant donation through the Chippewa County Farm Bureau Board. CCFB and the Farm Bureau Agent Charitable Fund Committee have given the district matching $2500 donations (totaling $5,000) to benefit the Rudyard Agriculture Program.
The focus of the donation funding revolves around the Farm to Table program opportunities for students to grow food at school that could then be part of the school lunch program in areas such as the salad bar. We have many families with food insecurities at home, and some of the food grown has and will continue to be sent home with students/community members. Additional business and economic opportunities for students to learn skills and the potential to sell some products through class production are on the horizon.
This is the second year for the relaunched agriculture program after not having such a program for more than 30 years. Under the direction of Mr. Ben Darr students have the opportunity to work in Maple Surplus production with a cooperation program with Michigan State University. Secondary Science Teacher Heather Swinney has taken the lead on the development of a school garden. In addition, the district is in the process of finalizing the ACE project, known as the Agricultural Center for Exploration, which will host the agricultural classroom including a full size commercial four-season greenhouse. The goal is to break ground on the greenhouse project in the spring of 2022.
Rudyard Area Schools would like to thank Lyle Harter, Bruce Berkompas and the rest of the Chippewa County Farm Bureau for leading the efforts at the local level, along with Craig Knudson from the Michigan Farm Bureau and Tracy Germain from McEvers Insurance in Engadine.
The veterans and their families are welcome to attend our 2021 Veteran's Day Assembly this week! Thank you to all who have served.

Today students in Grades 3-12 had the privilege to meet Anthony Ianni over the course of multiple assemblies. Mr. Ianni's message is geared around his story of growing up with autism and overcoming bullies to become the first Division I basketball player with autism in NCAA history, playing for Coach Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans.
The overall messages for the presentations are “Be careful what you say and do to others, because you never know who that person might become in the future,” and the message of “Don’t just go out and be the change, but go out and MAKE that change.”
We greatly appreciated his message!
