Best Memory:
Favorite Class/Activity:
I’m a giant nerd and my favorite memories from school include things like the bird watching trip with my fellow nerds in Mrs. Ewing’s class, a yearbook camp with my classmate and co-head editor, and soup opera in Mr. Fountains class. However, my favorite memory was being a 6th grade camp counselor and the survival game that year!
Advice to Students:
Big advice is that everything is temporary. If you love school and your classmates, soak it up and enjoy your time. If you hate school, this is temporary, you’ll find your place and your people in time. Be patient with yourself. Grades are important but don’t ONLY do school work. Make time for friends and your family, for reading, or for yourself. Finish homework on Saturday and relax on Sunday.
What are you doing now:
Right out of high school, I went to college and made it one semester at the University of Michigan before transferring to Grand Valley. I worked my way through college as a waitress and graduated with my ticket to grad school, a BS in behavioral science. I didn’t go to grad school and ended up working as support staff in special education. I went back to college in 2020 (prereqs in 2018). In Dec. 2021, I graduated again from GVSU with a bachelor’s in nursing. I work as a bedside RN now.
Nice job to the Art Club, led by Ms. Benson on the new art display of student work! Their goal is to have a new exhibit every few weeks! Keep Building Bulldogs!

Best Memory:
Friendships. I was blessed to attend Rudyard Schools from Kindergarten thru my Senior year. During those years friendships began, endured changes, and still continue on today. During that time I also learned the heartache of losing a friend. In my 7th grade year the Kincheloe Air Force base closed. My friend had to move. There was not the ease of keeping in touch like there is today. Friendships being created is by far the best memory.
Favorite Class/Activity:
My favorite class was math and bookkeeping. Typing was my least favorite, not because of the teacher Mr. Tromblay, he was the best, I hated the manual typewriters.
Advice to Students:
Be true to yourself, be honest with others and pursue your dreams. Keep your circle of friends to a group who have the same values as yourself. Life is full of choices. Learning from your bad choices will make the better choices easier to make
What are you doing now:
I got married and attended Lake State Superior University, pursuing an accounting degree. I had been working at McDonald’s during my high school days and continued on with the company until I was 21 years old. I accepted a part-time bookkeeping position with a small credit union in Sault Ste Marie. As an employee with the credit union I grew with the organization and have been the CEO of the Chippewa County Credit Union for the past 22 years.
We are hosting a bus driver training in February, we would love to see you there! Side note we would also love to have you as a bus driver!
Rudyard Area Schools will be on a 2 hour delay today, Thursday January 5. This means all start times are backed up exactly 2 hours.
Thank you to the class of 2023 for putting this event together. Parents, students should be picked up by 5:10 at the gym entrance doors.
The Week Ahead Jan. 2nd - 8th
This week's alumni spotlight is Tanner Norton '19.
What was your best memory from school?
Playing in the 2017 baseball quarter finals at Gaylord, Michigan.
What was your favorite class/activity?
One of my favorite ways to spend my mornings was to weight lift with Mr. K and jam to his “oldies but goodies.” I also enjoyed finishing my day with Ms. Verdoni and developing my love for math.
What advice do you have for students?
The transition from high school, whether that is to college or some other profession, can sometimes be difficult. With that in mind, work hard for your success and set goals to help guide your actions. Having this mindset will help ease the transition.
What did you do right out of high school, and what do you do now?
In 2019, I began my career at Grand Valley State University studying nursing. Today, I am in my senior year of nursing school and currently training to run the Boston Marathon this upcoming April.
The High School Girls Basketball game in Manton tonight Tuesday, December 20 is canceled due to transportation issues.
The Week Ahead for December 19th.
This week's spotlight is Erin (Jarvie) Pavloski '09.
What was your best memory from school?
I think my best memories were from senior year: my last home basketball game, running for homecoming court with Daine (my husband now!), and graduation!
What was your favorite class/activity?
It's difficult to choose between AP Biology and basketball - I loved both! AP Biology is why I chose to go to college for environmental science and biology, and I have loved basketball since I started playing at Rudyard Elementary School in 4th grade. I have many great memories from both!
What advice do you have for students?
In my career now, I get to work with many first-year college students. I think my advice is no matter what you do choose to do after high school, finding what you truly enjoy and always trying your very best at it is important.
What did you do right out of high school, and what do you do now?
Right out of high school, I left in the fall to attend Olivet College, double-majoring in environmental science and biology. After graduating, I worked for The Nature Conservancy, then went to graduate school at Michigan State University, and after that, worked at a Conservation District coordinating an invasive species program. In all my past positions, my favorite part of each was education and outreach. Now I'm so happy to be back at Olivet College as an assistant professor of environmental science! If any student is interested in learning more about Olivet College, please reach out!
The Trout Lake Bus Route (Bus 43), has gone into the ditch. Everyone is safe, there are no injuries, another bus is on its way to pick up the students and finish the route (currently on Teets Rd). School staff are currently en route to assist. Thank you for your understanding.
Wrestling tickets for today December 14, and Friday December 16 at the Sault must be purchased through GoFan as Sault Area School has gone cashless for all athletic event.
