The Week Ahead for 5/22-5/28...

This week's alumni spotlight is Derek Harter '04.
What was your best memory from school?
There were a lot of good memories to choose from but one of my favorites was making it to the post season for baseball and basketball with my teammates. The 2003 and 2004 classes broke the ceiling and got Rudyard back on the map for competitive sports. This was all based on the hard work and determination that everyone pushed to achieve during our years at Rudyard High School.
What was your favorite class/activity?
As part of my decision to become a Civil Engineer I would have to say both math and science were my two favorite subjects while in school. Both subjects prepared myself for university.
What advice do you have for students?
Learn to work together in group projects with other students. When you work on a project in real life 99% of the time you will have to work together in a team/group setting to achieve your desired outcome. I also recommend to learn how to delegate and take responsibility for the chosen task.
What did you do right out of high school, and what do you do now?
After graduating Rudyard High in 2004 I was fortunate enough to continue playing football at Michigan Technological University where I studied Civil Engineering for my undergrad (2008) and then a Masters of Engineering (2009). Today I'm currently employed by CSX Transportation working for the railroad as a General Manager Network Operations working in the dispatch center for the 24/7 and 365 day operations. The job is fun and challenging with something to be learned every day.

Here is the updated information about the Evening with the Arts at Rudyard. May 30th is the new date!

Rudyard Area Schools and the Class of 2023 would like to thank our amazing community for their support. Today at the Senior Scholarship Assembly over $30,000 was awarded to Rudyard Seniors.

This week's alumni spotlight is Cody Mayer '07.
What was your best memory from school?
All the late nights playing Halo at the Malaski house.
What was your favorite class/activity?
Welding.
What advice do you have for students?
Try to set a good example for the underclassman. They are watching you even when you think they’re not.
What did you do right out of high school, and what do you do now?
I worked for Love farms, then started my career in law enforcement working for the Chippewa County Sheriff department. Now I’m a Michigan State Trooper.

Good Morning Bulldog Country! Our head of building maintenance Ted Folkersma had a great view this morning!

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, to start off the week our very own Superintendent has been put to work, grilling up some hotdogs and hamburgers for his Teachers. If you see a teacher throughout your week, say thank you for all they do.

MITES Region 16 was held on Saturday. Rudyard students did very well, taking home 41 of a possible 47 1st places!

Monday is the last chance for students to buy their 2023 Prom tickets (May 8), guest requests are also due by 3:00 PM.

This week's alumni spotlight is Dr. Jamie Kantola '99
What was your best memory from school?
Homecoming week in the 90s- the “snake dance”, and bonfire at the football field.
What was your favorite class/activity?
I enjoyed science classes, particularly Biology and Human Anatomy with Mrs. Ewing.
What advice do you have for students?
3Set a goal for yourself every single day, no matter how small, and accomplish it. Tell yourself you are a successful, worthwhile person and do not tolerate anybody who says differently.
What did you do right out of high school, and what do you do now?
I attended Michigan State University, then medical school and I am now a family physician at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall Michigan.

Our MITES projects are now staged in the gym! Preview show tonight before they head to regionals! Public is welcome to come 5-7 PM (May 4) in the high school gym.
Nice job to all the students and the instructors!
