Importance of Strong Routines
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we move into the second week of school, this is an important time for students to begin building strong routines. The excitement of the first few days can wear off quickly, and the habits students develop now will have a significant impact on their success throughout the year.
Families can help by establishing consistent routines for bedtime, waking up, arriving at school on time, completing homework, and preparing for the next day. A few minutes each evening picking out clothes, packing a backpack, checking assignments, and discussing the next day's schedule can make mornings less stressful and help students arrive ready to learn.
Attendance is also an important part of a strong routine. Every school day matters, and arriving on time helps students begin the day focused and prepared. Missing even a small amount of class time can make it difficult to keep up, particularly as coursework becomes more challenging. Our motto, Every Student, Every Day, Whatever It Takes, reminds us that consistent daily effort matters.
Another important routine is putting away personal technology during the school day. Students may not use cell phones or other personal electronic devices from the first bell through the last bell. This includes passing time, breaks, and lunch. We appreciate families reinforcing this expectation at home. If you need to contact your student during the school day, please call the school office, and we will make sure they receive the message.
A sign-up sheet is available in the Guidance Counseling Office for the College Fair at Lake Superior State University on Thursday, September 17. The fair will take place during the school day and is open to students in grades 11 and 12 who are interested in learning more about college options from across Michigan. Interested students should sign up in the Guidance Counseling Office.
