Rudyard Area Schools is seeking a Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach to lead and develop a comprehensive basketball program.

Qualifications:

• Previous varsity coaching experience preferred

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

• Commitment to teaching fundamentals and developing student-athletes

• Commitment to working with all levels of boys’ basketball to develop a program

• Commitment to player safety and compliance with district, conference, and MHSAA regulations

• Willingness to work year-round and collaborate with a cohesive coaching staff

Position Summary

Rudyard Area Schools is seeking a Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach committed to the principles of educational athletics as defined by the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA). The successful candidate will lead all aspects of the boys basketball program, promote academic achievement and personal growth, and operate the program in a fiscally responsible manner while upholding the highest standards of sportsmanship, safety, and integrity.

Program Leadership and Development

• Provide leadership, supervision, and coordination of the boys basketball program from kindergarten through 12th grade, ensuring alignment with district goals and MHSAA philosophy.

• Promote a comprehensive program that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, discipline, and respect at all levels.

• Collaborate with sub-varsity and youth coaches to ensure consistent instruction, expectations, and long-term player development.

Student-Athlete Welfare and Conduct

• Promote academic success, character development, and personal responsibility of all student-athletes.

• Ensure student-athletes demonstrate respectful behavior in the classroom, during athletic participation, and within the community.

• Reinforce the MHSAA philosophy that participation in athletics is an extension of the educational experience and that academics are the priority.

• Serve as a positive role model consistent with district and MHSAA expectations.

Safety, Supervision, and Equipment Management

• Ensure compliance with all MHSAA rules, regulations, and safety standards related to boys’ basketball.

• Provide appropriate supervision of student-athletes during all practices, games, travel, and team activities.

• Ensure basketball equipment, uniforms, and facilities are properly cared for, organized, and secured following practices and competitions.

• Promote safe playing techniques and injury prevention strategies.

Fiscal Responsibility and Program Management

• Operate the boys’ basketball program in a fiscally responsible manner.

• Assist in budget planning, monitor program expenditures, and ensure responsible use of school and booster funds.

• Maintain accurate inventory and accountability for all equipment and supplies.

• Support fundraising efforts in coordination with school administration and district guidelines.

Professionalism and Representation

• Represent Rudyard Area Schools with respect and dignity at all times.

• Demonstrate and promote good sportsmanship toward opponents, officials, spectators, and the community.

• Maintain positive and professional communication with administrators, staff, parents, officials, and the public.

Qualifications

• Previous basketball coaching experience, preferably at the high school level.

• Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, athlete safety, and program administration.

• Understanding of and commitment to MHSAA rules, regulations, and educational athletics philosophy.

• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

• Completion of all MHSAA and district-required coaching certifications and training.
