POSITIONS: PART-TIME FAMILY LIAISON FOR STRONG BEGINNINGS PRESCHOOL PROGRAM
POSITION SUMMARY:
Strong Beginnings Family Liaison is responsible for working with the Strong Beginnings team to improve the well-being of all families enrolled in Strong Beginnings. The position includes developing relationships with families and partnering with them to provide information, resources and services that help them meet basic needs, strengthen their parenting and improve their families’ general well-being.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Successful prior experience in building relationships and working with families
• Associates degree or equivalent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Family Studies or related field
• Experience in working with families of preschool children, particularly with at-risk children
• Understanding of child development and early childhood education
• Knowledge of community resources providing services to families, particularly to economically disadvantaged families
• Ability to be self-directed and take initiative to find solutions that fit the needs of a wide variety of families.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with and coach parents and teachers
• Ability to work well with diverse families
• Knowledge of coaching and family advocacy
• Outgoing, caring personality
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work as the lead team member in providing information, support and resources to improve the family well-being of families of children enrolled in the Strong Beginnings preschool program.
• Develop positive relationships with families and teaching staff
• Use initiative and problem-solving skills to assist each family in successfully finding ways to meet their needs and improve their family’s well-being
• Serve as a member of the Strong Beginnings team, participating as appropriate in team meetings and activities
• Maintain accurate and complete family contact logs and participate in meetings required by the Michigan State University research team
• Develop knowledge of and working relationship with community organizations providing resources to young, economically disadvantaged families
• Interact with families during drop-off and/or pick up at least once per week to build relationships
• Observe/interact in the preschool classroom to get to know the children and program
• Meet with families individually as appropriate
• Communicate weekly through in-person and/or other forms of contact (text, email, app) with families in the program.
• Assist in establishing and/or supporting parent involvement activities
• Attend home visits and/or parent teacher conferences as requested
• Assist in recruitment and enrollment of families as appropriate
• Participate in trainings and professional development
• Able to work flexible hours as needed for family involvement activities, including home visits, recruitment events, open house
• Perform other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee must be capable of performing physical demands of the job, including, but not limited to driving.
