The Rudyard Pool Committee and Rudyard Township Park Board present the fourth annual Splash of Color Fun Run/Walk. All proceeds benefit the Rudyard Pool Committee.

- T-shirt size and individual color packet may not be available on race day
Run/Walkers in the 5K (3.2 mile) will get 6 colors thrown on them. Run/Walkers in the 2K (1.25 mile) will get 3 colors. A Color Party will take place between the 2K and 5K races. Participants will throw their individual color packets (received in your registration packet) into the air, creating a color cloud and guaranteeing that anyone in the vicinity will be thoroughly coated with color! Packets of color will be available for purchase for those who wish to party but not run (subject to availability).
Save money by joining a team! Teams of four or more racers will receive a $5 discount off the individual price so grab your friends and get registered!
The Race will begin at 10:00 AM with the 5K race beginning at the completion of the 2K race. The Race route will begin at the Rudyard Township Park.
Participants will receive a white t-shirt with the Splash of Color logo to wear (bathrooms will be available to change). As participants pass six* different stations along the course, volunteers will throw a different colored non-toxic powdered paint at their shirts. By the end of the race, the t-shirts (and yes, other parts of your body!) will be decorated with all six colors providing a colorful reminder of the event.
It's all about the fun. Because runners will most likely slow down as they go past the paint stations, we won't be timing this event and runners will not be placed. It's more about the fun than the performance. If you would like to time your run, bring your own timer.
The run/walk will begin promptly at 10:00 AM. We will start with the 2K runners at 10:00 AM. The 5K run will begin at the completion of the 2K.
Color Party! At the conclusion of the 2K and prior to the beginning of the 5K, we will have a “Color Party” where participants will throw their individual color packets into the air creating a color cloud and guaranteeing that anyone in the vicinity will be thoroughly coated with color. Individual color packets will be available for purchase (until we run out) for those who choose not to run but want to be part of the Color Party for $5/packet.
This is not a competitive race. Splash of Color is all about a fun-filled day to show support for the Rudyard Swimming Pool. We want everyone to be able to participate. That's why we offer an opportunity to walk or run. You are welcome to time yourself, but don't expect this to be one of your faster runs. Runner safety is more critical than time.
Kids and jogging strollers are welcome. We want kids to be a part of this. This is about helping the Rudyard Pool where kids are number one. We do recommend that your kids are properly protected with sunglasses, and for toddlers and infants, maybe even something to cover their mouth. The powdered paint is non-toxic and made mainly with corn starch, but it could irritate the smaller ones more than us.
Dogs and bikes are prohibited. For the safety of all of our runners (and the dogs), NO DOGS or bikes will be allowed on the race course.
Only runners wearing the Splash of Color shirt will have color thrown at them.
The tossing of the color does not hurt in any way. The paint is a very fine corn starch powder that will simply be scooped out of a large bucket and tossed. We don't use paint guns or anything that could bruise. If you want a lot of color to hit your shirt, plan to run or walk closer to the color throwers. If you want only a little bit of color, run or walk in the farthest lane from the throwers.
The color does mostly wash out after the event, but some of it can stain. As with anything, the sooner you wash it the better. We suggest wearing items that you wouldn’t mind getting the color on. Dust off all excess powder before washing with water. Wash your color run gear separately and use cold water. Oxiclean, or a similar product, will work wonders.
If you would like to preserve the color in your running shirt, spray it with vinegar and iron it before you wash it.
To keep the color from getting in your eyes or mouth follow these tips. The Splash of Color colors are 99 percent food-grade cornstarch, 1 percent natural colorant, and are 100 percent natural and safe. As with any substance, you want to keep it out of your eyes and our color throwers will make sure to aim low as you pass by. You may want to wear glasses or goggles for your eyes and use a bandana or dust mask for your mouth. (This is especially recommended for our younger runners/walkers who won’t know to close their mouth by a color station.)
If you want to avoid getting the color in your car, we recommend bringing some towels to place on your car seat. It’s similar to being at the beach or playing sand volleyball.
If you want to have any excess paint blown off your skin and clothes, we are hoping to have an air blower on hand. With a good dusting off, you won’t be completely clean, but you should be good for the drive home.
If you want to take photos while running through the color, we recommend covering cameras/phones with clear plastic. We will have an event photographer on hand, but we know you'll want to take your own shots. The photos we take will be placed on the Rudyard Color Run Facebook page.
If you have any questions not answered here, please ask at registration.
